PS4 Buying Digital Download vs Physical Disc -The Complete Breakdown As a recent owner of the PS4, I've decided that for this generation I will either buy all my games in digital or in physical discs. My PS4™ System Won't Read Game Disc. If you are having problems playing or loading some of your games on your PS4 ™, try the following troubleshooting steps that may solve the problem. Clean the disc with a soft clean cloth to remove any dirt or prints. Try inserting another game, Blu-Ray disc. If playing on a disc the first thing to do is check the disc for any scratches or smudges, I fixed the issue with one of my games a while back simply by giving the disc a wipe. If the issue remains and you are using a disc, first delete the game data and once done eject and reinsert the disc and it should start up.

I wanted to open up space and was hoping to upload the games into the ps4 memory But I guess that's not an option. The disc is only there to verify you bought the game. The file on your PS4 is the same as the file you would download from the PSN store but with physical copies you still need to insert the disk to be able to play.
The obvious reason for why they do this is so that you can't install the game and then just give it to a friend who ps4 download games from disc give it to another friend, etc, etc, etc They're already saved on your drive but for obvious reasons they need to verify you own the disc, otherwise 1 guy would buy the game and everyone he knew would get it for free. I'm guessing you're in the "everyone he knew" part of the equation? You know, Microsoft was trying to do this with Xbox One, where you would get a physical disc and a code.
But then the physical disc would be useless except for installation. As in you couldn't sell the game ever, cause it wouldn't work without a new code. But too many people complained and it wouldn't be good for Game Stop or RedBox.
Well what would've been smart is to sell the games in two ways: one which did exactly what they intended to do and the other was how things have been going for some time. Something of that nature would've worked. As it stands though, while it does sound dumb, it does mean that for those who physically buy a game and don't like it CAN return it.
I'm led to understand all PS4 games download the full game to the hard-drive as part of the install but the dvd has to be in the machine because it basically acts as the verification of ownership otherwise there'd be little to stop you installing it and passing it on to a friend who does the same thing. Cause if you could do that, you would just rent them from redbox, put on hard drive, then take them back, ps4 download games from disc.
That's not the point. If you must go digital no matter what, why bother making disks? I don't think you get it. The PS4 is reading the full game installed on the system. The disc is only used to verify that you own the game.
Because its not as advanced. I guarantee that the next Nintendo consoles will be installs. It installs to the hdd so everything loads faster. Except I hate digital. Fuck that shit.
